Trying Bubble Tea in Iron Kitchen

(Warning: You are about to read a post that is not about bubble tea house)

Did the warning scare you?

I am going to do a review of milk tea that is not sold in neither bubble tea houses nor dessert places. I am going to do review on milk tea that is sold in a restaurant that is famous for its iron plate rice and small hot pot.

The name of the restaurant is Iron Kitchen. It locates at 164 Brighton Avenue in Allston.

Although the place is a restaurant, the size of it is almost as small as your average bubble tea house. The total amount of people that the place could serve is 20 based on the number of seats they have.

Initially I only ordered a Korean Kimchi Hot Pot. But I decided to try out their milk tea because I saw their drink menu.

If you only look at the drink menu, you almost would think that you are in a bubble tea house considering the options you have for drinks. They have some milk tea that I could not find elsewhere. It was the first time for me to find Nutella Milk Tea, Lavender Milk Tea and Rose Milk Tea on a drink menu.

It is also interesting to find that you are allowed to choose between milk pudding and egg pudding for toppings. From my past experience, I did not get to choose what type of pudding I could have for milk tea. Iron Kitchen deserves an extra point for their pudding options.

I was so tempted to order the Nutella Milk Tea. But I ended up ordering the their Two Ladies Black Milk Tea (Boba&Black Pudding) as I was going for something traditional.

Here are my Korean Kimchi Hotpot and my Two Ladies Milk Tea.

Closer look of my drink

The first impression I had for the drink was that it's really sweet. It is sweeter than the milk tea I had at most bubble tea house. Owing to the sweetness, my throat did not feel very well after couple of sips. The bobas look big and plump from the outside. However, the texture of them is a bit hard. They are hard to chew. Another problem I have with their bobas is that they are overly sweet. I think that has to do with the milk tea. The bobas unfortunately suck the sweetness of the milk tea. The same goes to my black pudding. The pudding is not supposed to have that level of sweetness if it is not put in the milk tea.

I was quite disappointed that their milk tea is not as good as the fancy name it has. I was even mad that I could not fall into sleep after drinking their milk tea. That proves one thing-the caffeine of their black tea is off the charts.

Suggestion: Ask for lowering the sweetness level if you really want to have milk tea in the place. Also don't drink their milk tea before going to bed.
